So, I won’t claim to know anything about a Philly Cheesesteak outside of watching the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and eating steak-ums when I was a child (yeah…I see y’all judging me).

Apparently, they are all the rage and Philly’s “thing”. Ok, cool.  I did a little probing from Philly heads to find out who had the best cheesesteak in all of Philadelphia and the 3 recurring names were, Pat’s, Geno’s and Jim’s. When I asked what is so great about these places and what differentiates them from one another? I was told while they all use thinly sliced Rib-eye, one places chops theirs and the others do not. OK.

The name that came up the most was Jim’s, so we headed over to South St. First thing we were hit was the line around the block, guess that’s a good indicator. As we were standing in line you could see the mounds of meat cooking and vats of cheese wiz bubbling…

Next, we made it to the door, only to find out the line still wrapped around inside….

Finally, at the grill! Time to places orders. They had hoagies and steak sandwiches but NO fries or even chicken cheesesteaks. I guess I thought I was at one of places in the mall that sold the those 2 things but, NOPE.

We opted for a couple of Cheesesteaks and the Martha’s Meatless and the staff was judging LOL. They asked all loud, “Who ordered the Meatless? Who came to a Cheesesteak place and ordered the Meatless?” Talk about wanting the ground to open up and swallow me whole!!! It was funny tho. But my thing is, why the heck do they even have it on the menu then??

The portions were huge and the service was quick. However, beware, if for whatever reason you go to a cheesesteak place and decide to leave the steak off and order the meatless, it is served as is, meaning they put the onions, mushrooms, peppers, lettuce, tomato and cheese on the roll, they don’t even melt the cheese.

All in all, it was a pretty tasty experience, but was it the best? I guess we have to try the other 2 places to find out. If you already know…Let me know!
